Futsal Excellence Program

Robina State High School is the only school in Queensland with a Futsal Excellence Program. The program was established in 1999 and has continued to expand each year. Futsal is the only internationally recognised form of indoor football (soccer).

The program has a number of aspects including:

  • Senior class
  • Year 9 class
  • Teams for all age groups
  • School based club

Futsal classes

The program includes the subject Sports Studies – Futsal from the Health and Physical Education Faculty for year 11 and 12 students. In 2007 a subject was introduced for year 9 students. Robina SHS is the only school in Queensland with subjects devoted entirely to Futsal.

Features of the subjects include:

  • Developing an appreciation and understanding of a sport from many aspects
  • Allowing a critical viewpoint of all the aspects that involve sport culture in our society
  • Providing an effective strategy to allow students the opportunity for a healthy and quality lifestyle
  • There are no gender barriers
  • The courses aim to develop students with the abilities to organise, administer and compete in tournaments, as well as to coach, manage and prepare teams.
  • Expert assistance and coaching will be provided by Queensland Futsal Association (QFA) during normal lesson time
  • Opportunity to complete coaching and refereeing courses
  • Link with EBF – The Brazilian Football School

School Teams

Students have the opportunity to be selected in the school teams. There are teams for both girls and boys in all age groups, 13, 14, 15, 16 and open age. All of these teams have training sessions outside of class time. The teams will compete in a number of tournaments during the year.

Robina SHS Futsal Club

The club was established in 2000. Students from all year levels play in a competition every Friday afternoon. All teams are comprised of girls and boys. The club is refereed and administrated by the students. There are two seasons a year with the finals held in June and November. The club is split into two divisions. Senior students and staff compete in division one whilst Junior students compete in division two.
